Bright Students Need Help Too

Carson was a bright and enthusiastic 7th-grade student. He loved math, felt he was good at it, but his grades in the subject were poor. His mother brought him to the Applied Scholastics Learning Center. She felt he needed more help than what she could provide to him at home.

Upon close inspection of his abilities through a math assessment, we found that some of Carson’s basics were missing and his difficulties with multiplication and division were the root of his ongoing problems with decimals, fractions and pre-algebra concepts.

So, with an individualized math program to address his specific needs, Carson’s tutor went about helping Carson to fix the holes in his math education.

My son is a sophomore this year and is doing well and I attribute much of his academic success to your team! Keep up the great work! -A.T.

Carson had a firm grasp on his arithmetic facts, however, he had some basic confusions when working problems with many digits–he would put numbers in the wrong columns since he didn’t understand how place value worked when multiplying and dividing.

Once this basic confusion was handled, everything else came into place for Carson and by the end of 20 hours of tutoring, he was excelling at decimals and fractions and finally understood and could confidently and competently add, subtract, multiply and divide them.

Carson now had the foundational skills he needed to tackle the math concepts that were being covered in his school classroom.

Three years later his mother wrote to inform us that Carson was doing very well at the private high school he now attended and

that she attributed much of his academic success to the help he received at Applied Scholastics.

Some students, like Carson, don’t have giant gaps to overcome. Sometimes it’s just a simple confusion or some missing step that lies at the root of the difficulty in learning and progressing in a subject.

Let us help to fill in the missing gaps in your child’s education and get them winning again!
